Pizza Oven in July

Pizzas in July… Yes, we are a little crazy. We know it will be hot. But, we do live in Texas, and, let’s face it, July is hot. Another fact, pizza is good. And, wood fired pizza is the best. So, why not have pizza in July? Many of our friends and guests have said that they would love to come have a “pizza oven” Secret Dinner. Let’s do it!

Honestly, we love to fire up the pizza oven. I LOVE making pizza, it is so fun. We get to fire up the pizza oven a few times a year, not nearly as much as we would like. I make the dough the day before and let it retard in the refrigerator overnight. This builds structure and flavor in the dough. Robby starts the fire early, and the oven gets over 900 degrees inside. (Fun fact - we once melted a commercial oven thermometer in the pizza oven… oops!) Once the oven is ready, we can cook pizzas in less than three minutes. It is the most beautiful sight ever. There’s something magical about watching the pizza bubble and cook with smoldering hot wood coals in the background. So simple, yet so amazing.

So, pizzas in July. Let’s stay cool by putting our feet in the pool. I have a sneaky feeling Robby and I may both jump in at the end of the night…

See you soon!
